Karl Hartman

The meticulously and skillfully painted works of Karl Hartman are reminiscent of Henri Rousseau and the hyper-realists of the 20th Century. His deliberate and highly focused approach to painting give his work an 'other worldly' quality that borders on the surreal and trompe l'oie. While portraying the traditional landscape, he focuses on details that are just blurred images to our eyes as we go through our daily lives. Hartman forces us to notice all that we miss in our encounters with the natural world and brings into focus the wonders that surround us on every side. His mid-western background constantly reveals itself in his paintings. Images of his youth come forth, and are executed masterfully in vivid detail.
