“I see myself revealing an energy inherent to the materials and myself. To me my materials have a spiritual quality in the sense that there is a life hidden in the weave of the canvas, and also in the structure and fiber of the paper, the paint or oil pastel, and in the creative process itself. It is also spiritual in the sense that I don’t believe that this essential mystery of the materials I use and the creative process can be fully understood or defined in a rational way. For me this is the meaning of making works of art.”
